Collective Soul to play 2014 Lynden fair

LYNDEN - Collective Soul, an alternative rock band that had its heyday in the 1990s, will play the Northwest Washington Fair this August.

The Georgia band hit it big with singles including "Shine," "December" and "The World I Know." It's celebrating its 20th anniversary this year with a tour and its ninth studio album, "See What You Started by Continuing." While the drummer and lead guitarist have changed over the years, three members, including lead vocalist Ed Roland, have stayed intact from the early days.

Collective Soul was picked after the fair conducted a Facebook poll of possible acts to choose from.

The band closes out the fair Saturday, Aug. 16. Tickets, which cost $42 or $57 and include fair admission, go on sale at 9 a.m. June 4 at, the fair box office or by phone at 877-699-FAIR.

This is the last headliner to be announced for the 2014 fair. Country star Gary Allan and pop band Huey Lewis & the News are the other music acts; the demolition derby and the Lynden PRCA Rodeo fill the other nights of the fair, which runs Aug. 11-16.
