If you are looking for something a little different to do on Mother’s Day Weekend, the Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium has a number of activities planned.

It starts on Saturday when all mothers will receive discounted general admission on the traditional “Half-Price Moms’ Day.”

In addition, everyone who enters the zoo between 9:30-10:30 a.m. can enter a drawing for a close encounter with harbor seals. Drawings for the harbor seal close encounter are held every Saturday and Sunday.

Also Saturday, all moms will receive a 50 percent discount on the Zoom zip line, which opened for the season last weekend.

On Sunday, the zoo will celebrate “Marvelous Mother’s Day,” featuring several enrichment activities for animals.

At  11 a.m.,meerkats will get to play with boomer balls in the Kids’ Zone.

At 12:30 p.m., Sumatran tiger Jaya, mother to Dumai and Kali, will receive a special brunch consisting of a bone shank.

At 3 p.m., the harbor seals will enjoy enrichment toys with fish inside and ice treats studded with fish. Harbor seal moms Qilak and Shila each gave birth to a pup last year. Saya and Hogan will each be 1-year-old  in June.

The colorful budgies are back, and they’ll fly right up to visitors’ hands to eat the seeds on special sticks that can be purchased for $1 for zoo members or $1.50 for non-members.
