Mountaineers' forwards use heads to win first-round game

Mount Baker's boys' soccer team scored with all three starting forwards and the Mountaineers topped Coupeville 3-0 in a 1A Northwest District Tournament first round matchup on Wednesday, May 7, at Mount Baker.

Baker sent in 19 crosses in the game, leading to all three header goals.

"The entire team, from the goal scorers to the backline, was very focused," Baker coach Jason Jorgenson said in a phone interview. "They came out with tenacity and energy and kept going at them."

Manuel Mendez, Alex Tyska and Jesus Torerro all scored goals, as Baker outshot Coupeville 25-6.

Baker plays South Whidbey on Friday, May 9, at home. If they win, the Mountaineers will qualify for the 1A tri-district tournament.
