Trojans fall in first round of 1A tournament

Meridian's baseball team couldn't pick up a win in the first round of the 1A district tournament, losing to Coupeville 6-1 on Tuesday, May 6, at Meridian.

"It was a really good ball game," Meridian coach Steve Slesk said in a phone interview. "Both pitchers threw the ball really well. ... We just didn't support our guy like they did."

Coupeville's Ben Etzell and Meridian's Derek Campfield each had nine strikeouts.

Meridian mustered four hits - two by Jake Plagerman and one each by Kyle Linderman and David Anderson.

Meridian now moves into the losers' bracket and will face Mount Baker on Thursday, May 8, at Pipeline Fields.
