Team defense helps Lynden top Sehome

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDMay 6, 2014

The Lynden softball team managed to slow up hot-hitting Sehome to pick up an important 13-3 victory on Tuesday, May 6.

"It's a big win because it came against a 2A team," Lynden coach Steve Petersen said in a phone interview. "There are five strong 2A teams battling for four (postseason) spots, so any time you beat one of them, it's a big win. Sehome swings the bat really well, so it was good to get a win over them."

Tanna Benson held the Mariners (5-10, 4-5 NWC) to six hits with the help of her teammates.

"She let her defense work behind and threw strikes," Petersen said. "That was key to get everybody involved."

Benson also went 3 for 4 with an RBI and a double, while Catyler Alex went 2 for 3 and scored four runs and Trisha Snyder went 3 for 4 with four RBI.

Morgan Henry led Sehome by going 2 for 2 with an RBI.

Sehome returns to action at Meridian on Wednesday, May 7, while Lynden hosts Blaine in a doubleheader on Thursday, May 8.
