Squalicum finishes conference play unblemished

Squalicum's boys' soccer team finished its regular season by topping the last undefeated team in the conference, Anacortes, 2-0, on Monday, May 5, at Anacortes.

Squalicum finishes the regular season 12-0 in the Northwest Conference and will take the No. 1 seed in the 2A district tournament.

"Today we revel in it and are excited, but we know it's time to look ahead," Squalicum coach Joe McAuliffe said in a phone interview.

BJ Flood struck first off a marvelous volley from 25 yards out. Then Gabe Guidroz finished off the spectacular first half with another long shot for a goal.

"It was a beautiful first half. We possessed the ball well," McAuliffe said. "We took care of them pretty well in the first half."

Squalicum begins the postseason on Saturday, May 10, at home.
