The new fishing and big-game hunting rules pamphlets are now in sporting goods stores across the state.
The pamphlets from the state Department of Fish and Wildlife explain state rules for fishing and hunting seasons for species ranging from steelhead to Roosevelt elk.
Both pamphlets also can be found on the department’s website at wdfw.wa.gov.
Anglers should note that state fishery managers are extending the fishing rules that went into effect May 1 by two months, through June 30, 2015. The change is a transition to a later cycle, said Jim Scott, assistant director of the fish program. In future years, the pamphlet will be effective July 1-June 30.
The switch will improve the agency’s ability to complete the rule-making process for salmon and reflect the regulations in the pamphlet, Scott said. For 2013, for example, rules for fishing the Puyallup and Skokomish rivers were not set until after the pamphlet was printed.
The dates covered by the big-game pamphlet are unchanged from previous years.
