Bellingham's softball team lost a pitcher's duel to Anacortes, 3-1, in a Northwest Conference game on Thursday, May 1, in Anacortes.

The Red Raiders' Eliza Rossman and the Seahawks' Brooke Writer took no-hitters into the sixth inning before both were broken up. Rossman struck out 11, and gave up five walks and two hits.

"For me, to see a Bellingham team hang in with a team the caliber of Anacortes, it shows how far we've come in the last few years," Bellingham coach Rick Ellis said in a phone interview. "Eliza just battled; she was hitting her locations tonight and had multiple pitches working."

Lindsey Richard had the Red Raiders' only hit of the game, an RBI single that scored Emily Dickinson.

Bellingham takes on Burlington-Edison at 6 p.m. Friday, May 9, at home.
