Lions roll past Golden Eagles

Lynden's boys' soccer team kept the ball most of the game and topped Ferndale 3-0 in a Northwest Conference match on Thursday, May 1, at Bender Fields.

"We kept possession of it all game," Lynden coach Drew Smiley said in a phone interview. "It was a good win for us."

Alex Guenther got the scoring started in the 20th minute, Miguel Gonzalez added a goal in the 50th and Gerardo Quiroz scored the highlight-reel goal in the 70th minute to seal the win.

Quiroz, who had an assist earlier in the game, got the ball from Gonzalez with his back to the net and hit the ball with his back heel past the goalkeeper.

"It was pretty sweet," Smiley said. "He (Quiroz) was all over the place today."

Lynden (5-5-5,4-3-4 NWC) faces Sedro-Woolley on Monday, May 5, at Bender Fields to close out the regular season. Ferndale (0-14-1, 0-10-1 NWC) plays Bellingham for the last game of the regular season on Monday at home
