Bellingham girl recants story of being grabbed, slapped by man

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDApril 30, 2014

BELLINGHAM - A girl who told police that a man grabbed her and slapped her as she was walking home near Lakeway Drive Monday afternoon, April 28, has recanted her story, according to the Bellingham Police Department.

The girl had told police that a man had approached her around 4 p.m. as she was walking from the bus to the apartments behind the Little Caesars Pizza in Lakeway Center.

She said the man stomped on her foot, grabbed her groin and slapped her in the face before she was able to run away and tell her parents, who called the police. Police couldn't find the man where the girl said the attack occurred.

She later recanted her story, Detective Sgt. Jason Monson said on Wednesday, attributing the false tale to a mix-up in the girl's medication.
