Whatcom County artist Ken Speer will have a retrospective show through May at Book Fare Café, on the third floor of Village Books, 1200 11th St., with an opening reception 6 p.m. Friday, May 2, 2014.

Whatcom County artist Ken Speer will have a retrospective show through May at Book Fare Café, on the third floor of Village Books, 1200 11th St., with an opening reception 6 p.m. Friday, May 2.

The show consists of 108 small works reflecting Speer's experiences in Northern California as a young man, his adventures in the Caribbean, and his landscapes and thoughts since becoming a Northwest resident in 1990.

The works include book covers, poems, sketches, posters and landscapes. He paints with a lively, colorful style in an attempt to integrate Eastern and Western ideals. Details: 360-778-9083.
