Guidroz strikes twice in Storm win

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDApril 29, 2014

Squalicum's boys' soccer team just keeps on rolling.

The Storm defeated Mount Baker 3-0 in a Northwest Conference game on Tuesday, April 29, on the strength of Eli Guidroz's two first-half goals. Guidroz now has three goals in the past two games.

"He's efficient with his time and chances," Squalicum coach Joe McAuliffe said in a phone interview.

McAuliffe has been giving many players a chance to play down the final stretch of the season to make sure everyone's ready for the playoffs.

"We want them to feel a part of it, know our system and have good fitness. So when we get to postseason, everyone is sharp and ready to contribute," he said.

The Storm's other goal came from Tyler Hughes, who also had an assist on the day.

It was Squalicum's seventh shutout in a row and 10th of the season.

"Our goal at the start of the season was to not let our guard down. In the past, we've let teams back in the game," McAuliffe said. "We are getting more disciplined on how to finish a game."

Squalicum (12-0-2, 10-0-0 NWC) plays Lynden Christian on Monday, May 1, at Civic Stadium. Mount Baker (5-9-1, 4-6-1 NWC) faces Anacortes on Thursday on the road.
