Ferndale girls' tennis falls on the road

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDApril 29, 2014

Burlington-Edison's girls' tennis team swept singles play to take a 5-2 Northwest Conference win over Ferndale on Tuesday, April 29, at Burlington-Edison.

Carly Bannerman and Shelby Slaughter earned a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 2 doubles, their seventh of the year.

Meredith Boxx and Hailey Schulz also picked up a 7-5, 6-3 win for Ferndale in No. 3 doubles.

"We just didn't play well in the singles. This is one of those matches that will haunt me a bit," Ferndale coach Ed Sweitzer said in a phone interview. "Bannerman and Slaughter are becoming more dominant. They're going to be a team to be reckoned with and could wreak some havoc in districts."

Ferndale takes on Squalicum at 3:45 p.m. Wednesday, April 30, at home.
