Meridian rallies late, beats Baker in extras


The Meridian baseball team rallied with two outs in the bottom of the seventh to steal a 4-3 Northwest Conference win in eight innings against Mount Baker on Tuesday, April 29, in Laurel.

The Trojans trailed 3-1 with the bases empty and two outs in the seventh before Meridian rallied to tie the game and eventually won thanks to a hit by pitch in the eighth that brought in the winning run.

Meridian pitcher Derek Campfield threw all eight innings, earning the win, and Mount Baker's Cody Larson also went the distance but took the loss.

"Derek did a great job today," Trojans coach Steve Slesk said in a phone interview.

Meridian (8-9, 4-6 NWC) hosts Lynden Christian next at 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 30, while Mount Baker (1-15, 0-9 NWC) hosts Squalicum next at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 30.
