McElwain a star in Blaine's win


Alexis McElwain hit a three-run home run in the first inning and Blaine's softball team held off Sehome 6-3 in a Northwest Conference game on Tuesday, April 29, at Frank Geri Fields.

"They came out early, ready to go. We came out a little flat," Sehome coach Jim Emerson said in a phone interview. "We just never really got back up."

McElwain also picked up the win in the circle for her team, striking out five and walking seven.

Morgan Henry hit a homer - her third in two games - for the Mariners as she went 2 for 2.

Blaine (9-5, 5-3 NWC) plays Squalicum on Thursday, May 1, at Pipeline Fields. Sehome (5-9, 4-4 NWC) faces Lake Washington on Saturday, May 3, on the road.
