Maley puts forth strong effort in Ferndale win

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDApril 29, 2014

Ferndale's softball team cruised past Lynden Christian 12-2 in a Northwest Conference game on Tuesday, April 29, at Ferndale.

The Golden Eagles' Lauren Maley picked up her 12th win by striking out 12 while walking none.

"I felt like she overpowered quite a few of the hitters," Ferndale coach Holly Hilton said in a phone interview.

The Golden Eagles bats took awhile to get going, but ended up with 12 runs on eight hits and two homers. They were aided by LC's eight errors.

"They struggled with (Kasey) Luna at first. She has a lot of movement on her ball," Hilton said. "As we got later in the innings, they started putting the ball in play."

LC's pitchers included Luna, Karley De Jager and Allison Smit. LC's Shelby Brown hit a double in the game.

Ferndale (13-1, 8-0 NWC) plays Oak Harbor on Wednesday, April 30, on the road. LC (7-5, 2-4 NWC) faces Lynden on Wednesday at home.
