Baker softball falls on the road

Mount Baker's softball team allowed 11 hits, but only gave up five runs in a 5-2 Northwest Conference loss to Burlington-Edison on Monday, April 28, at Burlington-Edison.

The Mountaineers' defense helped keep the Tigers from advancing runners, with just one error on the day. Burlington-Edison scored all of its runs in the third and fourth innings.

Jordan Miles impressed Mount Baker coach Ron Lepper with her defense, throwing out runners at second and home plate from right field.

"We made some good plays defensively," Lepper said in a phone interview. "They had seven of their hits and we walked three in those two innings."

Chyanne Ortloff was 1 for 3 with an RBI for Baker. Sara Verry went 1 for 3 with a double and a run scored.

Mount Baker looks to bounce back at 4:30 p.m. Friday, May 2, at home against Sedro-Woolley.
