Trojans hold on for win over Friday Harbor

Meridian's softball team held off a late charge by Friday Harbor to take a 5-4 nonconference win on Monday, April 28, at Pipeline Fields.

With the Trojans leading 5-4, Friday Harbor led off the seventh inning with a triple. Meridian pitcher Emma Weg was able to get three consecutive outs and hold the runner on third to end the game.

"It just about gave me a heart attack," Meridian coach Jordan Chambers said in a phone interview. "The girls played well, I keep pushing them to start scoring early. We're peaking at the right time."

Keana Waugh and Deborah Eigenbrood each went 2 for 3 for the Trojans. Ashley Veenstra had an RBI and a stolen base.

Meridian takes on Anacortes at 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 29, at home.
