Slam win season opener

Bellingham Slam guard Jacob Stevenson scored a team-high 23 points, helping the Slam earn a lopsided 143-93 season-opening International Basketball League win over the Seattle Flight on Friday night, April 25, in Bellingham.

Following the win, Bellingham lost to Vancouver 127-115 on Saturday, April 26, in a rematch of the 2013 IBL Championship.

Slam rookie guard Sam Freeman chipped in 22 points in the win, and Mo Anderson scored a team-high 23 points in the loss to Vancouver.

Richard Woodworth and Blake Poole each scored 19 points in the loss.

Bellingham was in command the entire game against Seattle and cruised to the win. Against Vancouver, Bellingham took a 56-56 tie in halftime but couldn’t overcome a slow start to the third quarter.

The Slam return home next to play the Portland Chinooks at 7 p.m. Friday, May 2, at Whatcom Pavilion.
