Lynden snags tough tie with Sehome

The Sehome and Lynden boys’ soccer teams battled to a 1-1 tie on Friday, April 25, at Whatcom Community College in a Northwest Conference matchup.

Sam Willis scored the opening goal off an assist from Gabe Weight in the 27th minute for the Mariners. The Lions’ Alex Guenther evened the game up in the 55th minute off a feed from Carson Sandland.

“We played awesome,” Lynden coach Drew Smiley said in a phone interview. “For how young a team we are, we really played well. Our best game of the year.”

Sehome’s coach John Sylvester wasn’t nearly as happy with his team’s performance.

“We were just out of sync for no apparent reason today,” Sylvester said in a phone interview. “Just had trouble linking up with each other. I would say that about the other team, too.”

Both Lynden (4-5-3, NWC 3-3-3) and Sehome (7-2-4, NWC 5-2-2) are in action on Tuesday, April 29, with the Lions facing Blaine and the Mariners facing Nooksack Valley.
