Meridian narrowly defeats Ferndale


Meridian’s baseball team won a defensive battle with a 2-1 Northwest Conference victory over Ferndale on Friday, April 25, at Ferndale.

Josh Hosick went 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI for the Trojans (7-8, 3-5 NWC) and Jake Plagerman was 1 for 3 with an RBI. Neither team gave up an error in the contest.

“We bounced back a little bit, changed some things around and got back to playing solid defense,” Meridian coach Steve Slesk said in a phone interview. “We got some kids in positions they’re more comfortable in. I was proud of the way we competed.”

Kyler Schemsted was 2 for 3 with an RBI for Ferndale (9-7, 6-3 NWC).

Meridian takes on Burlington-Edison at 4 p.m. Monday, April 28, at home. Ferndale plays next at Squalicum at 4 p.m. Monday, April 28, at Squalicum.
