Lions hold on for win over rival Lyncs

Lynden’s baseball team took an early 4-0 lead and held off Lynden Christian to win 4-2 in a Northwest Conference game on Friday, April 25, at Lynden.

After a leadoff double by LC’s Jamie Heystek, Christian Mouat picked him off, which set the tone for Lynden to score two runs in each of the next two innings.

“It was a great atmosphere at the game today,” Lynden coach Cory White said in a phone interview. “There was a good buzz and a lot of people there. The kids were jacked up.”

Mouat pitched 5 1/3 innings to pick up the win before Cameron Wainwright pitched the final two innings to close it out.

Dalton Ohligschlager saved the lead when he tracked down a ball near the wall in the top of the sixth with two guys on.

“We thought we played real well,” White said.

All of LC’s hits (one each by Jamie Heystek, Alex Vander Velden and Josh Heutink) were doubles.

Lynden (10-6, 6-2 NWC) faces Sehome on Monday, April 28, on the road. LC (3-11, 2-5 NWC) plays Sedro-Woolley on Monday at home.
