An avalanche special advisory is in effect in the Olympics and Cascades.

An avalanche special advisory issued by the Northwest Weather and Avalanche Center remains in place today in the Cascades and Olympics.

The warning doesn't apply to controlled areas such as ski resorts. Crystal Mountain, Alpental and White Pass are among those planning to open for the weekend.

The road to Paradise at Mount Rainier was open Friday, but traction tires are advised and all vehicles must carry chains according to the park's Twitter feed.
