Akers leads Ferndale past LC

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDApril 23, 2014

Ferndale's baseball team scored five runs in the first two innings and topped Lynden Christian 9-3 on Wednesday, April 23, at Lynden Christian.

"We came out pretty flat today," LC coach Desi Luna said in a phone interview. "The pitchers made it tough for us today."

LC's pitching gave up eight walks and seven hits on the day.

Ferndale was led by Joey Akers, who helped his own cause on the mount by hitting a home run and adding 3 RBI.

LC also had seven hits on the day.

"I thought we hit the ball OK," Luna said. "It's just not enough when you give up that many baserunners."

Ferndale (9-6, 6-2 NWC) plays Meridian on Friday, April 25, at home. LC (3-10, 2-4 NWC) faces Lynden on Friday on the road.
