Luna's pitching, walk-off give Lyncs a win

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDApril 22, 2014

Kasey Luna got the win in the circle and had a walk-off, infield single for the Lynden Christian softball team in its 9-8 win over Anacortes on Tuesday, April 22, at Lynden Christian.

With runners on second and third and two outs, Luna hit a hard grounder to the Seahawks' second baseman. She bobbled the ball, as Luna hustled down the line and was able to beat the throw to score Lexi Holleman and win the game for the Lyncs.

"She was confident and ran hard," Lynden Christian coach Mitch Moorlag said in a phone interview. "Kasey battled and battled in the circle. She gave up two home runs, but at the end of the day she did a great job putting the ball in the strike zone and making the defense work behind her.

Luna finished 3-for-4 hitting with two RBI. Shelby Brown was 2 for 3 with an RBI and Allison Smit went 1 for 2 with a triple.

Lynden Christian's next game is at 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, at La Conner.
