Bellingham lands on list of cities on the rise

Continuing its string of landing on "best of" types of lists, Bellingham can add the title of city on the rise.

The Estately Blog has compiled a list of Washington cities on the rise and on the decline. Bellingham ranked sixth highest among 10 cities on the rise. Here's a (link) to the blog post.

This study uses a variety of statistics (most from the U.S. Census) to make up the ranking, including a change in poverty. According to this study, the number of people below the poverty line declined 16 percent in Bellingham between 2000 and 2012.

Bellingham also did well when it came to home values and increasing the number of people with a bachelor's degree, but not so great in increasing the median household income and reducing the crime rate.

Des Moines, Federal Way and Lakewood were at the bottom of the list of Washington cities on the decline.

Bellingham & Whatcom County have landed on a variety of lists in recent weeks, including best downtown, best place to retire and having some of the least obese residents.
