Village Books will give away free books April 23

April 23 is the birth and death day of Shakespeare as well as the death day of Cervantes, the great Spanish novelist. It is in their honor that UNESCO declared April 23 the international day of the book and that it was chosen to celebrate World Book Night.

On that day, 50,000 volunteers coast to coast will each give away 20 specially printed copies of one of the 35 books on the World Book Night list. The big idea is for avid readers to spread the love and joy of reading to light readers and to non-readers by giving away books they love.

Village Books is the book pickup point for local volunteers. For more information about World Book Night, go to
