Jordan Wittenberg hit a walk-off single in the seventh inning to give Lynden a 3-2 Northwest Conference win over Anacortes on Saturday, April 19, in Lynden.
Carson Smith drew a walk to start the seventh, but Lynden was unable to advance him to second. With two outs, Tristan Black, who pinch ran for Smith, advanced to second on a passed ball. Opting not to walk Wittenberg, Anacortes pitched to him and he made them pay, dropping a hit over the second baseman's head.
"It was an exciting win for us," Lynden coach Cory White said in a phone interview. "It was fun to be on the giving end of that and experience that."
Lucas Petersen got his first win of the season, pitching a complete game, striking out three in seven innings of work. Already past 100 pitches, Petersen pushed through to close out the seventh.
"He pitched with confidence," White said. "He wanted to do it and go shut the door in the seventh. He showed a lot of growth on the mound."
Lynden (7-6, 4-2 NWC) plays Mount Baker on Monday, April 21, at home.
