Lions' hot first inning not enough to win

Lynden's softball team got off to a quick start but a four-run third inning left the Lions with a 4-2 loss to Anacortes in a Northwest Conference game on Friday, April 18, at Daniels Field.

Catyler Alex got a hit on the board in the first and the Lions brought her around to get the scoring going.

The tides turned the other way in the third inning, when Anacortes put a four on the board.

"We had a couple mistakes and they got runners in scoring position and they delivered," Lynden coach Steve Petersen said in a phone interview. "It was a great opportunity to learn what a district-quality opponent looks like."

Tanna Benson got the win for Lynden, striking out nine in the game.

Lynden (6-3, 3-1 NWC) plays White River on Saturday, April 19, at home.
