Tigers' VanderVeen stumps Blaine softball in 2-hitter

Blaine's softball team ran into a hot pitcher and took a 7-1 Northwest Conference loss to Burlington-Edison on Friday, April 18, at Pipeline Fields.

Riley VanderVeen took the win for the Tigers, giving up just two hits and one run. She also launched a solo home run.

"Their pitcher did a great job," Blaine coach Alisa Burk said in a phone interview. "Lexie Greguski was our only run, she scored on a passed ball."

With the loss, Blaine drops to 5-4 overall with a 2-2 record in the NWC. Burlington-Edison improves to 4-7 overall and 2-2 in conference play.

"We didn't come out fighting as tough as we needed to today," Burk said.

Blaine plays at noon, Saturday, April 19, at Bellingham.
