Big fifth boosts Ferndale to win over Sehome


Ferndale's softball team exploded for a seven-run fifth inning and defeated Sehome 12-4 in a Northwest Conference game Friday, April 18, at Sehome.

"Ferndale is a good-hitting squad," Sehome coach Jim Emerson said in a phone interview. "We had some baserunners in scoring position, but we couldn't clutch up."

Lauren Maley got the win for the Golden Eagles, striking out eight Mariners. Savanna Shawler and Abigail Bauthues were both 3 for 4 with a run scored and two RBI.

Gabby Gorosave was 2 for 4 with an RBI and a double for Sehome.

Ferndale's next game is at 4 p.m. Monday, April 21, at home against Blaine. Sehome plays at 4:30 p.m. Monday, April 21, at Mount Baker.
