Offense comes alive for Ferndale in win

Ferndale's baseball team threw some offense behind its consistent defense and pitching to take a 7-2 Northwest Conference win over Blaine on Friday, April 18, at Pipeline Fields.

Ferndale's Joey Akers went 3 for 4 with a run scored and two RBI. Kyler Schemstad got the win for the Golden Eagles.

"Schemstad cruised for the first three innings and had a little hiccup in the fourth, but Chase Olsen came in and shut them down," Ferndale coach Donny Hennigs said in a phone interview. "As long as we keep pitching well and playing defense, we're going to win some games."

Jonathan Starcer was 1 for 3 with an RBI for the Borderites, who scored both their runs in the fourth inning.

Ferndale plays Sehome at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 19, at home. Blaine hosts Bellingham at noon, Saturday, April 19, at Pipeline Fields.
