In celebration of National Poetry Month, Washington State Poet Laureate Elizabeth Austen is the guest poet at poetrynight at 8 p.m. Monday, April 21, at Bellingham Public Library, 210 Central Ave. poetrynight is a program of Whatcom Poetry Series.

The Skagit River Poetry Foundation will honor Austen at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 17, at the Museum of Northwest Art, 121 First St. in La Conner. There will be wine, appetizers, and readings of Austen's work by both student and adult poets, including the author.

Austen will be Poet Laureate through 2016.

If you attend the event in La Conner, or if you're able to get to MoNA by June 15, be sure to view the current exhibit, "Shapes of Abstraction," which features new acquisitions from the museum's permanent collection and a poem by 2012-2014 Poet Laureate Kathleen Flenniken.
