A Bellingham mental health counselor is being accused of unprofessional conduct after he allegedly touched and kissed a client and wrote her a love song that he posted on YouTube.
The Washington state Department of Health accused Drew Weidenbacher of texting and calling his client with no therapeutic purpose, talking to her about his marriage, and suggesting that they begin a romantic relationship.
The woman, identified only as Client A, went to Weidenbacher for counseling for nearly a year as she was ending her abusive marriage.
Other allegations included that he held sessions that were longer than normal - some exceeded two hours - and outside regular work hours, didn't create a treatment plan and kept incomplete records, according to the state.
"The Department of Health has only filed charges at this time and nothing has been proven," said attorney Karin Mitchell, who is representing Weidenbacher.
"We are working closely with the Department of Health to resolve this matter," Mitchell said.
