Opening day of spring/summer trout season now nine days away

Posted on April 17, 2014

Washington's rite of spring trout fishing, the opening of many lakes statewide, is set for Saturday, April 26.

In Whatcom County, lakes Padden, Silver, Toad and Cain lakes, stocked with rainbow trout in anticipation of the opening, join other waters such as Lake Whatcom and Baker Lake in hosting

In neighboring Skagit County, Heart, Sixteen, Erie and McMurray lakes also have been stocked with hatchery fish in anticipation this opener.

For a comprehensive rundown of the lowland public fishing lakes in Whatcom County including maps, fish stocking rates, past year opening day, which have docks and bank fishing options and watercraft related information, read the Bellingham Herald's Outdoors Column in the Sunday Sports section.

You'll also find out where to get pancakes for breakfast and even participate in a fishing contest.

Similar detailed outlines (with maps you can take with you) of trout lakes in Skagit and Okanogan county will run Saturday, April 26 and Sunday, May 4, respectively.
