"The Mastodon,"which opens Thursday, April 17, at iDiOM Theater, 1418 Cornwall Ave., is a crime-drama that follows Ariel, a young call girl who struggles with drug addiction, and her search for her missing girlfriend.

The story examines predatory relationships, and chronicles Ariel's ascent from the bottom to the top of the metaphorical food chain of inner city Los Angeles. Written and directed by Ben Eisner, "The Mastodon" is a play rich in danger and mystery, with actors Jaz Okura-Youtsey, Joan Harris, Brooke Friswold, Jessica Young, Alice Despopolous, Tera Contazec and Chris Coombs.

"The Mastodon" is staged at 8 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, April 17-19, and April 24-26. The play contains adult language and situations, including simulated drug use and violence.
