Native American flutist Peter Ali shares stories about his music from his CD, "Sounds of the Indigenous Flute," intermixed with performances of his original songs, in a free event at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 19, at Village Books, 1200 11th St.
Ali plays a variety of native flutes and shares of his rich ethnic heritage. His father, from Morocco, is Berber. His mother is of Yaqui Indian heritage, as well as Italian and Spanish, from Sonora, Mexico.
In the last seven years he has taught workshops for Indian education programs. In 2008, he played for the Dali Lama on Children's Day during the Seeds of Compassion tour.
