Veenstra leads Meridian in win


Ashley Veenstra had four RBI in her return from injury, and led Meridian's softball team to a 10-6 Northwest Conference win over Bellingham on Tuesday, April 15, at home.

Veenstra was 3 for 3 with two doubles for the Trojans (2-7, 1-3 NWC).

"She picked up right where she left off," Meridian coach Jordan Chambers said in a phone interview. "If she stays healthy she'll be a big part of the offense. If we can keep playing like we are, we'll surprise some teams."

Emma Weg was 3 for 4 with a double for Meridian.

Bellingham's Lindsey Richard went 2 for 4 and took the loss in the circle for the Red Raiders (3-6, 0-4 NWC).

Meridian takes on Friday Harbor at 3 p.m. Thursday, April 17, at home. Bellingham hosts Blaine at 4 p.m. Thursday, April 17, at home.
