Verry leads Mountaineers in Baker's 12-2 win

Mount Baker's softball team scored in all but one inning for a 12-2 win over Lynden Christian in a Northwest Conference game on Tuesday, April 15, at Lynden Christian.

Baker scored one run in the first and second, two runs in the fourth, fifth and seventh and four runs in the sixth. LC added two runs in the third inning, the only inning the Mountaineers didn't add a number to the board.

"It was one of those games," Baker coach Ron Lepper said in a phone interview. "We scratched a run in the first, Sara Verry hit a homer in the second and we just kept adding along the way."

Verry's home run came with two outs and two strikes. She had a double and four RBI on the day.

Aleks Toivola was credited with the win. She pitched seven innings with seven strikeouts, two of which came with the bases loaded in the fifth inning.

Baker (6-3, 2-1 NWC) faces Nooksack Valley on Thursday, April 17, at home. LC (5-1, 1-3 NWC) plays Burlington-Edison on Thursday on the road.
