Ferndale's close wins not enough against Sedro-Woolley

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDApril 14, 2014

Ferndale's girls' tennis team came up just short against Sedro-Woolley in a 4-3 loss on Monday, April 14, in Ferndale.

Holly Clark got the only singles win for the Golden Eagles and the teams of Carly Bannerman/Shelby Slaughter and Meredith Boxx/Hailey Schulz scored wins on the doubles side.

"Holly was down 5-2 in the first set, but came back and won the tiebreak, then in the second set she just demolished her opponent," Ferndale coach Ed Sweitzer said in a phone interview. "Meredith Boxx and Hailey Schulz grew up a bit today. They just started playing last year and this win was a testament to how well they have taken to the game."

Ferndale's next match is against Lynden at 3:30 p.m. Friday, April 18, at Lynden YMCA.
