LC earns win late over Mount Baker

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDApril 14, 2014

With two outs in the final inning, the Lynden Christian baseball team had a walk, the benefit of an error and three straight singles to score three runs, and Jamie Heystek pitched well as the Lyncs earned a 5-4 Northwest Conference victory Monday, April 14, at Mount Baker.

Heystek struck out eight Mountaineers en route to the complete-game victory and also was 2 for 3 with a run scored. Drake Likkel was 2 for 4 with an RBI to help LC's cause.

Andrew Zender was 2 for 3 with a run scored and Jacob Marr was 1 for 4 with a double and two RBI for the Mountaineers.

Mount Baker starting pitcher Seth Bass struck out seven in 6 2/3 innings.

"(Heystek) threw his butt off to win the game," Baker coach Quinn LeSage said in a phone interview. "Both pitchers threw well. Unfortunately we couldn't close the door when we needed to."
