LC scores early, Nooksack equalizes late

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDApril 12, 2014

Nooksack Valley's boys' soccer team battled to a 1-1 draw with Lynden Christian in a Northwest Conference match on Saturday, April 12, at Bender Fields.

Liam Kroontji got a goal off a corner kick in the second minute to give the Lyncs the early lead.

"It was great execution. We timed our runs perfectly and had multiple guys in position," LC coach Brent De Ruyter said in a phone interview. "We did some really nice things early. We had them on their heels."

Then the game went 73 minutes without a goal until Nooksack Valley's Jorge Perez scored the equalizer off a failed clearance from the Lyncs.

"It's the little things we don't do that other teams take advantage of," De Ruyter said. "It's tough to go for 70 minutes without another goal. It's hard to hold off the other team for that long."

Nooksack (2-6-0, 1-4-0 NWC) plays Lynden on Tuesday, April 15, Nooksack Valley Elementary. LC faces Anacortes on Tuesday on the road.
