Neria has standout performance for Lynden


Freshman Jasmyne Neria competed beyond her years, winning one individual event and running legs in two winning relay teams for Lynden on Saturday, April 12, at the Cashmere Invitational track and field competition in Cashmere.

Lynden finished second behind King's, which won with a score of 109.5. The Lions came in with 55.5 points, and Meridian was right behind them in third place with a score of 54.

Neria's claimed first in the 400 with a time of 1 minute, 1.13 seconds, while running the opening leg for the Lions' winning 4x100 and 4x200 relay teams. Hailey DiLorenzo and Kat Webb also ran in both winning relay teams.

The Trojans, while not winning a single event, got strong performances from freshman Payton Lunde and Janessa Murphy in the sprints. Lunde placed second in the 200 (27.48) and third in the 100 (13.46), and Murphy placed third in the 200 (27.60) and second in the 400 (1:01.61).

Lynden had one other individual winner in Shelby Jacob in the javelin. Jacob's mark of 123 feet, 1 inch earned her first in the event.

Other high placers for Meridian were Mimi Meggison's second-place finish in the 3,000, and McKenzie Roque's third-place finish in the 800.
