Richard's single gives Bellingham win over Lynden

Bellingham's Alex Richard drove in the game-winning run in the ninth inning with a single to give his team the 7-6 win over Lynden in a Northwest Conference game Friday, April 11, at Bellingham.

The Red Raiders put two men on base to start the ninth inning and moved them to second and third with a sacrifice fly. Jashawn Dorsey walked to load the bases, and Richard hit a liner between the third baseman and shortstop to win the game.

Richard finished 2 for 3 with a run scored and an RBI. Ryan Fox was 3 for 5 with a double and two runs. Brad Johnson took the win for Bellingham, only throwing 96 pitches in a complete game.

"From about the sixth inning on, Brad was nails," Bellingham coach David Farrell said in a phone interview. "Lynden got some good hits on some good pitches. They are a good club that can swing it. I'm so proud of the way we battled back late and put pressure on them."

Cameron Wainwright took the loss for the Lions, but was 2 for 4 with a double, a home run, a run scored and two RBI.

Lynden will look for a win at 4 p.m. Monday, April 14, at Burlington-Edison. Bellingham plays Meridian at 4:30 p.m. Monday, April 14, at home.
