Miscues sink Pioneers in loss to Meridian

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDApril 11, 2014

Five errors were enough to doom Nooksack Valley's baseball team to a 4-1 Northwest Conference loss to Meridian on Friday, April 11, at Nooksack Valley.

Meridian scored all four of its runs in the sixth inning. Davis Phillips took the win for the Trojans. Tanner Tutterow was 2 for 3 and Josh Hosick was 2 for 4.

"Phillips pitched a good game. We didn't hit him as well as I thought we could have," Nooksack Valley coach Scott Gelwicks said in a phone interview. "We had a couple of mistakes on the basepaths that cost us some runs."

Noah Rawls took the loss from the mound and was 2 for 3 hitting for the Pioneers.

"Rawls pitched well, we just had one bad inning," Gelwicks said. "Meridian is a good enough team that they'll beat you when that happens."

Meridian's next game is at 4:30 p.m. Monday, April 14, at Bellingham. Nooksack Valley plays at noon Saturday, April 12, at Concrete.
