Six-month closure of Church Road in Ferndale starts April 14

FERNDALE - A major route to the city's residential north side will be closed for construction for about half a year. Church Road will be closed to all but local traffic from Main Street to Thornton Street from Monday, April 14, until about late October.

Work will begin with removal of natural gas lines. Major reconstruction of Church Road from Main to Heather Drive, including the addition of sidewalks and street lights, is expected to begin in May.

Flaggers will direct local traffic. People who need to get in and out of residential streets along Church Road can expect long delays at times.

Traffic that would use Church to get from Main to Thornton will be rerouted to Vista Drive or Olson Road.

Ferndale was awarded $2.78 million in grants for the project, which was estimated to cost $4 million. City funds will make up the difference.
