LC rallies in fifth to pick up win

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDApril 9, 2014

Lynden Christian's baseball team scored two runs in the fifth inning and held off Sehome for a 2-1 win on Wednesday, April 9, at Lynden Christian.

The Lyncs strung together two hits by Austin Vander Haak and Jake Poag before getting a sacrifice fly to tie it up. Tyson Cline then knocked in the game-winning run.

"We got that one good inning," LC coach Desi Luna said in a phone interview. "When you play clubs like Sehome, you have to play near-perfect ball. It was a pretty good day for us."

Jamie Heystek got credited with the win after relieving Poag after 4 2/3 innings.

"I'm not sure how he (Poag) did it, but he seemed to get out of trouble in every inning," Luna said. "He's just a magician."

Sehome got its run in the first inning from Gage Bull.

LC plays Blaine on Friday, April 11, at Pipeline Fields. Sehome faces Sedro-Woolley at Janicki Fields on the same day.
