Ferndale grinds out win over Anacortes

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDApril 9, 2014

Ferndale's baseball team snagged two runs in the first inning and rode Kyle Baker to a 4-0 victory over Anacortes on Wednesday, April 9, at Ferndale High School.

Kole Weidkamp had a two-out, two-RBI double in the first to spark the Golden Eagles. It was one of only three hits on the day for Ferndale, which scored runs by doing the small things.

"We did a good job of working counts, working walks, doing what we needed to do," Ferndale coach Donny Hennigs said in a phone interview. "We executed perfectly."

Kyle Baker threw the complete-game shutout, striking out two and walking only one.

"He was really good on command all day. He pitched his tail off," Hennigs said. "We have been struggling, but today we came out with a different attitude."

Ferndale plays Mount Baker on Friday, April 11, on the road.
