Bellingham girls' tennis tops Blaine

Bellingham's girls' tennis team defeated Blaine 6-1 on Wednesday, April 9, at Blaine. The Red Raiders' Mariah Miller and Ruby Parker won their respective singles matches 6-0, 6-0.

Saskia Dolk notched the only win of the day for the Borderites. She defeated Bellingham's Kara Burns 6-4, 5-3 after Burns withdrew due to injury.

"Saskia was stroking the ball well. There are some things we need to work on, but overall it was good," Blaine coach John Freal said in a phone interview. "Two years ago those two played a three hour match. It looked like it could've happened again."

Bellingham's Catie Welch and Ellie Iverson defeated Gretchen Kordas and Lily Olason 6-0, 6-3, holding off the Borderites' duo as they tried to make a comeback.

Blaine's next match is at 3:45 p.m. Monday, April 14, at Burlington-Edison. Bellingham plays next at 3:45 p.m. Thursday, April 10, at Ferndale.
