Bellingham woman, 48, in critical condition after deadly crash near Ridgefield

RIDGEFIELD - A Bellingham woman remained in critical condition Wednesday, April 9, after a crash this week that left one man dead on Interstate 5 in Clark County.

A man driving a northbound Ford F-250 had been testing overhead clearance heights on a shipping route around 1 p.m. Monday when the pilot pole on his truck hit the Carty Road overpass near Ridgefield, about 10 miles north of Vancouver, Wash., according to The Columbian newspaper.

Eldon L. Ford, 33, of Ontario, Ore., the driver of the pickup, slowed down to pull over when a Honda CR-V driven by Wanda K. Dodd, 48, of Bellingham, crashed into the back of the truck.

Dodd lost control of her car and struck a motorcyclist, Dennis G. Sarton, 60, of Vancouver, in the center lane, the Columbian reported. Sarton was thrown from his bike and died at the scene.

Dodd remained at PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center on Wednesday.

The driver of the Ford was not hurt.

State troopers continued to investigate the crash and haven't decided if anyone will face charges.
